HANDICAPPER OF THE YEAR, BEATING 200 SERVICES
IN LAS VEGAS SPORTS WATCH MONITOR CONTEST:
PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT NOTES AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH LIST - THEY WILL CLARIFY SOME THINGS FOR YOU
Bob Akmens Sports is very proud that in the 4 decades they've been in business, they have finished #1 in more categories of more documented handicapping contests than any other sports service ever - dead or alive.
That number currently stands at 363 - and counting.
We could make a highlight-film with just our accomplishments in the past year...consider these events to start:
* NAMED 2016 HANDICAPPER OF THE YEAR AT LAS VEGAS SPORTSWATCH MONITOR IN MOST NET PROFIT WON, BEATING OUT 200 OTHER SERVICES.
* FINISH #1 IN 2017 NFL FOOTBALL WITH 90% WINNERS AT LAS VEGAS SPORTSWATCH MONITOR IN WIN % & MOST NET PROFIT WON, BEATING OUT 93 OTHER SERVICES.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2016 MLB BASEBALL SEASON AT SPORTSWATCH MONITOR IN MOST NET PROFIT WON, BEATING OUT 130 OTHER SERVICES.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2015 NBA BASKETBALL SEASON AT THE SPORTS MONITOR IN 5 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES, INCLUDING MOST NET PROFIT WON.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2014 MLB BASEBALL SEASON AT THE SPORTS EYE IN BEST WINNING PERCENTAGE.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2013 MLB BASEBALL POST-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE SPORTS EYE IN MOST NET PROFIT WON.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2012 NFL FOOTBALL REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP AT BOTH THE SPORTS MONITOR & THE SPORTS EYE IN MOST NET PROFIT WON AND WE WON 70.8%.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE 2012 COLLEGE FOOTBALL REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP AT BOTH THE SPORTS MONITOR & THE SPORTS EYE IN MULTIPLE CATEGORIES, WITH 73.47%:
#1 IN WIN PERCENTAGE (73.47%); #1 IN RETURN-ON-RISK WITH 43.14%; #1 IN MOST NET PROFIT WON; #1 IN TOTALS WITH AN AMAZING 24-4 RECORD, ETC.
* WE FINISHED #1 IN THE ULTIMATE CONTEST THERE IS FOR SPORTS SERVICES: THE 2012 COMBINED FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE SPORTS MONITOR, WITH A REMARKABLE
9+% WIN OVER THE 2ND-PLACE SERVICE (AND THERE WERE 125 SERVICES IN THIS CONTEST!). WE HAVE A COMBO WIN % OF ABOUT 72%. IN 27 YEARS OF TSM, NO SERVICE
HAD EVER WON THIS CONTEST BY MORE THAN 4%. aND OVER THE LAST DECADE THE AVERAGE WIN WAS BY 0.9%. AND WE WON BY 9+%.
* WE ALSO BECAME THE VERY FIRST SERVICE EVER IN THE 27 YEARS OF THE SPORTS MONITOR (TSM) TO FINISH WITH OVER 70% IN THE SAME YEAR IN BOTH COLLEGE FOOTBALL (73.47%)
AND NFL FOOTBALL (70.8%). iN SPITE OF THE LYING THIEVES WHO CLAIM TO WIN 80% ALL THE TIME (AND ARE NEVER MONITORED IN A LEGITIMATE CONTEST), NO ONE HAD EVER DONE THIS.
* 361 #1 finishes in different categories of monitored sports service contests...far, far more than any other sports service...ever.
AND REALIZE THAT WE'VE DONE SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE HAS EVER DONE IN THE SPORTS SERVICE BUSINESS: WE HAVE BEEN THE DEFENDING NATIONAL HANDICAPPING CHAMPS IN BASEBALL, THE NFL, HOCKEY, AND THE NBA REGULAR-SEASON & PLAYOFFS - ALL AT THE SAME TIME. THE 4 MAJOR SPORTS IN AMERICA & WE WERE THE DEFENDING CHAMPS IN ALL OF THEM SIMULTANEOUSLY. YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE BEFORE WE DID THAT! IT'S A SPECTACULAR CROSS-SPORT PERFORMANCE.
We present those #1-finishes below arranged chronologically.
First, we list all 361 of them in the first table.
Then, we list them by individual sport:
FOOTBALL - 124 #1-CATEGORY FINISHES

NOTES TO THIS TABLE:
#-1 RANKINGS:
Just like a baseball player can lead his league in different categories at the same time (batting average, homers, RBI's, etc.), so too can a sports service claim to be #1 in the nation by virtue of having finished tops in a given category with a given sports monitor.
AN UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENT:
As of October 3rd, 2007, BOB AKMENS SPORTS was the number #1 sports-service in the nation (as tracked by either The Sports Monitor [TSM] or The Sports Eye [TSE]) in every major sport currently being played in America:
BOB AKMENS SPORTS was the defending national handicapping champion of the 2007 MLB regular-season (both TSM & TSE).
BOB AKMENS SPORTS had the highest win-percentage in football (college & NFL-combined) as tracked by TSM at 71%+.
BOB AKMENS SPORTS was the defending national handicapping champion of the 2006-2007 NHL regular-season (TSM: 1-star compare category).
BOB AKMENS SPORTS was the defending national handicapping champion of the 2006-2007 NHL post-season (TSM: #1 in 3 different categories).
It's believed this is the first-time something like this has ever happened in the history of the sports-service industry.
THE SPORTS MONITORS LISTED:
SportsWatch Monitor (SWM) is in Las Vegas; their website is www.sportswatchmonitor.com
The Sports Monitor (TSM) is run by Ruth Glasgow in Oklahoma City; their website is www.thesportsmonitor.com.
Her category of "1-star compare" is unique, to my knowledge. It's a very useful category in that it equalizes the ratings any service puts on a game to a flat 1* (which equals a play to win a flat $100 per play). This prohibits a service from claiming they had great results when, in fact, a few very high-rated games won, but many more low-rated ones lost. Under 1-star compare, all plays are played equally.
The Sports Eye is run by John at www.thesportseye.com. He runs a very good and useful site.
The original, first monitor of sports services, founded by Marty Mendelsohn and then run by John Hodges, was the AADSS: The American Association of Documented Sports Services. The very first-ever contest for sports services was the 1980 MLB Contest - which, I am privileged to say, I won. And I vividly remember starting that contest with 44 wins and only 11 losses!
The AADSS also ran the first-ever contest for services for hockey in 1994. Again, it was my privilege to not only win that, but to do so spectacularly. Each service began that contest with a $10,000 bankroll. By the time that contest ended, I had increased my bankroll by more than a factor of 14 times - to past $140,000! At the time, it was the largest increase in the 15-year history of any AADSS sports-service contest. It gave me probably my biggest kick ever in this business to do that.
That is, until just recently, when I finished #1 in at least one category of 8 straight NHL handicapping contests. That is so astonishing an accomplishment that it boggles the mind. Consider how hard it is to have anywhere from dozens to hundreds of other services competing against you, day-after-day. Now consider how hard it is to end any given week on top against all those other competitors - many services never, ever even do that. Then, appreciate how amazingly difficult it is to end a one-half-year-long contest on top - beating out 10 times the number of opponents that any sports team needs to beat to finish on top in any given year. And then...to do that for 8 contests in a row? You could live to be a 100 and not see anything like that again in your lifetime.
We've also been tracked by the Las Vegas Sports Monitor & WinningCappers.
WHAT "FULL SEASON" MEANS & OTHER MONITORING CONVENTIONS:
"Full season" means an entire sports season: pre-season, regular-season & post-season.
I have kept the naming-conventions of each monitor as well as I could; while The Sports Monitor keeps track of "most net profit," The Sports Eye calls it "most bankroll won," etc.
In past years, monitors may have credited a service differently than they do now for an accomplishment; for instance, some monitors credited a first-half or second-half of a long season with an All-Star break in the middle as a completed, separate event.
I STAND BY THE ACCURACY & VERACITY OF MY RECORD:
As can be noted, I chose to limit who monitored my service. For a time at the beginning, only the AADSS (for a couple of years) tracked my progress. When The Sports Monitor became known to me, Ruth Glasgow exclusively tracked my plays until a few years ago when John of The Sports Eye also started to do so. As noted above, the Las Vegas Sports Monitor started tracking us in 2008. And SportsWatch Monitor in 2016.
Had I chosen to be monitored by more places, I suppose I would have had many more titles than I have.
Yet, having done this since 1978, I very much doubt if there are many other services out there that can match this documented record.
And I stand by the veracity of every single one of these listings - they are accurate and true. That is what occurred in that category of that sport with that monitor that year. I may actually have omitted some other #1-categories along the way.

For a time at the beginning, only the AADSS and Sports Watch (for a couple of years) tracked my progress. When The Sports Monitor became known to me, Ruth Glasgow exclusively tracked my plays until a few years ago when John of The Sports Eye also started to do so. As noted above, the Las Vegas Sports Monitor started tracking us in 2008.Had I chosen to be monitored by more places, I suppose I would have had many more titles than I have.

For a time at the beginning, only the AADSS and Sports Watch (for a couple of years) tracked my progress. When The Sports Monitor became known to me, Ruth Glasgow exclusively tracked my plays until a few years ago when John of The Sports Eye also started to do so. As noted above, the Las Vegas Sports Monitor started tracking us in 2008.
