There were angry words and punches, sure, but one Red Sox player avoided an episode that could have turned things much worse.

16. Mets 4, Marlins 1: Mets’ Streak Continues, but the Injury Bug Returns
Before a win over the Marlins, the Mets learned of their first big injury of the season: a torn ligament in the throwing arm of catcher Travis d’Arnaud.
17. Mets 8, Marlins 6: The Mets Have Found an Identity: The Comeback Kids
For the fifth time this season the Mets fell behind and then came back to win. Their latest victory gave them a franchise-best 9-1 start to the season.
18. Red Sox 14, Yankees 1: Yankees-Red Sox Rivalry Is Renewed With an Epic Drubbing

The Indians and Twins both have Puerto Rican stars on their teams and now is their time to shine on their native island in a two-game series at Hiram Bithorn Stadium that begins Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
4. Nats rally for 6 runs in 8th to crack Mets
The Nationals overcame a dominant, 12-strikeout performance from Jacob deGrom, using a six-run eighth inning to rally from five runs down and beat the Mets at Citi Field. Bryce Harper, who broke his bat on his MLB-leading eighth home run in the first inning, started the comeback with a two-run single.
5. Paxton outduels Keuchel as Mariners stay hot
James Paxton gave up a homer to George Springer leading off the game, but the big left-hander settled in and blanked the Astros for the rest of his six innings, outdueling Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel went the distance for Houston, but the world champs still dropped their third straight. Seattle, meanwhile, won for the fifth time in six games, thanks in part to Nelson Cruz's first home run since coming off the DL.
6. Teheran (9 K's) helps cool Phillies in opener
Julio Teheran proved he can find some comfort at home and Ozzie Albies continued to be a valuable catalyst as the Braves snapped the Phillies' six-game winning streak with Monday night's 2-1 win at SunTrust Park.
7. Severino dominates, Didi homers twice in rout
Didi Gregorius homered twice and Aaron Judge visited the right-field seats for a historic dinger in support of Luis Severino's dominant effort, as the Yankees rolled past the Marlins, 12-1, on Monday evening at Yankee Stadium.
8. These broken-bat HRs from history boggle the mind
Hitting a home run off a Major League pitcher is one of the hardest things an athlete can do. But hitting a homer while your bat shatters in half? That's a whole new definition of strength.
9. Sox-Angels clash begins with Price-Ohtani duel
For April showdowns, it doesn't get any better or more compelling than the Red Sox-Angels matchup that opens tonight in Anaheim. Take the two hottest teams in American League and mix in the most intriguing early-season storyline in many years (two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani), and you should have riveting drama from the very first pitch of this three-game series.
10. Marcus Stroman enjoyed a Sunday dinner with Drake and Drake's plates
Stroman dines with Drake, and on perfect plates
11. Alomar lends hand to PR kids at Play Ball event
The latest edition of Play Ball featured more than 450 participants from all over Puerto Rico at Hiram Bithorn Stadium on Monday. In addition to hitting and fielding drills, activities included baserunning and agility workouts.
12. Gleyber exits Triple-A game with back stiffness
Gleyber Torres was removed after two at-bats for precautionary reasons in Monday's Triple-A game at Gwinnett, reporting back stiffness on a 48-degree evening.
13. Kemp, Grandal go deep vs. former team
Matt Kemp and Yasmani Grandal -- once traded for each other, now teammates -- both went yard in a 10-3 Dodgers victory over the Padres, their former team.
14. Red Sox rise to top in latest Power Rankings
It's hard to argue with the Red Sox taking over as baseball's best team. Their rainout on Monday didn't change the fact that they started the day tops in the AL with a 2.06 rotation ERA.
15. Royals-Jays on Wednesday only on Facebook
MLB's digital-only national broadcasts continue Wednesday with the Royals-Blue Jays matchup at Rogers Centre airing live in the United States exclusively on Facebook.
16. Cubs, Cards to renew rivalry after 1-day delay
Who's the favorite to win the National League Central? The Cubs and Cardinals will square off tonight, and each will be trying to gain an edge in the division.
17. Nats' Robles won't need surgery on elbow
Monday marked a good night for the Nationals, as the club erased a five-run deficit to defeat the rival Mets, 8-6. while also getting encouraging news on Victor Robles. Manager Dave Martinez announced postgame that Washington's top prospect does not have any tears in his left elbow and will not require surgery.
18. These are most exciting players on each team
What a baseball fan finds "exciting" is, in many cases, a matter of taste, but there's no question that some plays, and some players, stand out more than others.
19. RBI game serves as prelude to PR Series
Roberto Perez dreamed of playing in Hiram Bithorn Stadium when he was a kid. The Indians catcher grew up in Mayaguez, on the western coast of Puerto Rico, and he never had the opportunity to travel across the island to take the field at San Juan's famous ballpark in his youth.
20. Play Beat the Streak for a chance at $5.6 million
Time to start swinging for $5.6 million! It's easy to play: Get a hit, and your streak continues. If not, try again the next day.
21. Gregorius finally developing into elite hitter
You might remember this: Didi Gregorius couldn't hit. That was his distinguishing feature. He could field, but he couldn't hit.
22. Executive Access talks success with Sabean
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand recently sat down with Brian Sabean in his office to discuss dealing with criticism, the Barry Bonds era, his successful run with manager Bruce Bochy and much more.
23. Ryu spins gem backed by Kemp, Grandal HRs
Hyun-Jin Ryu gave the Dodgers their second two-game winning streak on the season by keeping San Diego at bay on Monday. He was backed by a couple of homers by former Padres: Matt Kemp's three-run home run in the third, and Yasmani Grandal's grand slam in the ninth.
24. Mengden spins gem to earn 1st home win
The A's have badly needed more from their starting pitchers. More innings, more efficiency. And better results. Right-hander Daniel Mengden gave them just that Monday night, twirling an eight-plus inning gem against the White Sox in an 8-1 series-opening victory at the Coliseum.
25. Monday's top prospect performers
Here's MLB Pipeline's roundup of the top prospect performances in the Minor Leagues on Monday.
26. Snitker: Talented Acuna 'trying too hard'
Braves manager Brian Snitker would have liked to have already gained the opportunity to put Ronald Acuna in his lineup on a daily basis. But he recognizes the need to allow the top prospect to first work his way through an early slump, which might be a product of trying to do too much.
27. Cruz launches first homer since coming off DL
Nelson Cruz still isn't running very well after returning from a sprained right ankle over the weekend, but the Mariners' slugger wasn't worried about sprint speed as he launched his first home run since coming off the disabled list -- a solo shot off the Astros' Dallas Keuchel -- during Monday night's 2-1 win at Safeco Field.
28. Long ball aids Marquez as Rox roll past Bucs
Braving light snow and a 27-degree game-time wind chill on Monday night, Marquez held the Pirates hitless until the fifth as the Rockies defeated the Pirates, 6-2, at PNC Park -- their fifth victory in the last six games.
29. Hit parade backs Castillo as Reds snap skid
The Reds' offense -- wayward through a rough start to 2018 -- not only opened a lead Monday vs. the Brewers, it tacked on runs greedily for a team that was badly in need of a victory. Although it wasn't a game without twists and turns, Cincinnati emerged with a 10-4 win. As Luis Castillo pitched 6 2/3 innings, the offense that came in with the fewest runs scored in the National League came alive with a season-high 14 hits, with Adam Duvall's three knocks pacing the attack.
30. Robertson, Smith back Snell's gem vs. Texas
The Rays had a much-needed feel-good game Monday night in an 8-4 win over the Rangers at Tropicana Field. Daniel Robertson and C.J. Cron homered and Mallex Smith went 4-for-4 to back Blake Snell, who allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings, striking out nine.
31. Springer HR, Keuchel CG aren't enough vs. M's
George Springer started the Astros' road trip with a leadoff homer and Dallas Keuchel went the distance on Monday night, but James Paxton and the Mariners scratched out a 2-1 victory at Safeco Field.
32. Adam Ottavino has unreal April numbers thanks to some dazzling pitches
Ottavino's amazing pitches lead to unreal April stats
33. Falling ice at Rogers Centre postpones KC-TOR
The Blue Jays' series opener against the Royals on Monday in Toronto was postponed due to ice falling on Rogers Centre from CN Tower, the club announced about 90 minutes before the scheduled first pitch of 7:07 p.m. ET. The clubs will play a traditional doubleheader on Tuesday, starting at 3:07 p.m.
34. deGrom fans 12 in Mets' deepest start of 2018
Unhappy with his results despite a 3.06 ERA over his first three starts, Jacob deGrom took time following the last one to review his mechanics. Almost immediately, deGrom noticed that his arm was dropping when he swung it behind him to begin his delivery.
35. Profar in concussion protocol after hard slide
Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar is being evaluated in Major League Baseball's concussion protocol after getting upended by a baserunner and landing on the right side of his face during Monday's 8-4 loss against the Rays.
36. Lopez's strong start vs. A's gets no backing
Not even a trip to California did much to heat up the White Sox bats, as A's starter Daniel Mengden all but silenced them in a 8-1 Chicago loss in Monday night's series opener. The hitting struggles spoiled a third straight quality start from right-hander Reynaldo Lopez.
37. Dodgers won't use off-day to move up Kershaw

9. The WIAA's year-old baseball pitching rules have created new thinking, strategies
The WIAA introduced a new rule last season that uses pitch count instead of innings when determining maximum workload for a baseball pitcher. Every time Dan Lukes sees the scar on Jason Berken's right elbow, he knows he helped put it there. It was July 2002 when Lukes, the manager for the De Pere

26. Is that how you do it? Win a World Series and then work to get better? Just ask the Astros
